Kilkerran 12 Year Old is the first official bottling of single malt from the Glengyle distillery, which reopened in 2004. A lightly peated, twice distilled and unchillfiltered whisky. It is aged in a combination of Bourbon casks (70%) and Sherry casks (30%). It is a single malt in the pure Campbeltown style, it is marked by woody, fruity, vanilla notes with a nice velvety and saline finish. This bottling was eagerly awaited since the distillery has been closed for more than 80 years.
TASTING NOTE
Nose: Oak notes are dominant, followed by toasted marshmallows and dried fruit pudding, along with cherries, marzipan and a hint of peat.
Palate: Initially fruity with notes of citrus and orange zest then notes of vanilla and caramel.
Finish: Velvety, there is an oiliness and salinity that you would expect from a Campbeltown whisky.
