This is the Bordeaux red wine, Château Le Pape 2019. It is a very fine vintage from the Pessac-Léognan appellation.
Benefiting from the experience and expertise of the Château Haut-Bailly teams, the Château Le Pape vineyard thrives in the wake of its predecessor and is building a personality, vintage after vintage. The wines have thus gained depth and length, while retaining their characteristic freshness.
The work of renovating the vineyard undertaken since 2012 has borne fruit again this year. The limitation of yields, reasoned protection and traditional tillage have encouraged the vines to develop deep rooting, which not only reduces the impact of climatic excesses (a torrential spring followed by an arid summer), but also to reveal the great potential of the Pope’s terroir. More balanced, the vine thus produces grapes concentrated in phenolic and aromatic compounds.
The result is increasingly structured and elegant wines, with beautiful substance.
The 2019 Château Le Pape blend is as follows: 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. It is marked by gourmet and fruity Merlots. Its round and fleshy tannins bring a nice density.
Vintage 2019 at Château Le Pape: the grapes arrived in September with a fantastic aromatic and tannic concentration. High degrees were to be expected, but fortunately the rains in mid-September were saving. This made it possible to start the manual harvest from September 30 to October 3 for the Merlots, and on October 11 for the Cabernet Sauvignon.
In primeur tasting, Château Le Pape 2019 presents a bright red color. The nose is fresh with a crunchy character, showing coffee, chocolate and berries. Medium to full body, firm silky tannins and a very nice finish. One of the most refined Popes.
