The property
Today has become a globally successful brand, the Veuve Clicquot myth was built thanks to a woman: Madame Clicquot. It was in 1798 that François Clicquot married the daughter of Baron Nicolas Ponsardin. Son of the founder of the Maison de Champagne Clicquot, he passed on all his passion to his wife, initiating her into the secrets of making champagne. When her husband died prematurely, at the age of 27, she took over the reins of the Maison de Champagne Veuve Clicquot. Guided by a sense of innate innovation and a perpetual quest for perfection, she invents the riddling table and markets the first rosé blended champagne. Maison Veuve Clicquot has made this uncompromising requirement its motto: “A single quality, the very first”.
The vineyard
Owner of 390 hectares, Maison Veuve Clicquot owns one of the largest Champagne vineyards. It is also exceptional for its quality since it is spread over 12 of the 17 Grands Crus and 20 of the 44 Premiers Crus of Champagne.
